We are a non-connected Political Action Committee formed to take political action as necessary concerning the military's bioterrorism vaccines.  Our primary mission is to support the fight to halt the use of dangerous, unproven bioterrorism vaccines on our troops.  We also work to clear the names of those who have previously refused the anthrax vaccine - declared illegal in December of 2003, and again in October of 2004 - and to help obtain adequate, fast medical care for those who have become ill from these vaccines.

I suppose we get the country we settle for by not paying attention.

Somehow, although our Senators  prevented drilling in the Arctic Wildlife National Refuge, in the same bill they manage to turn away from the voices sounding alarms about giving the pharmaceutical companies sweeping protection from any liability for harm or death caused by their drugs and vaccines.  The passed this protection into law without question.

The news report we posted (http://releases.usnewswire.com/GetRelease.asp?id=58603)  takes the point of view that it’s because the Senators hold stock in the pharmaceutical companies.  I’m not so sure it’s that easy an explanation, although the money at stake for the pharmaceuticals is, indeed, astronomical.  I think it’s also because our congressional delegations are so divorced from the daily life that most Americans lead – and certainly that our service members and veterans lead – that issues like this just aren’t real to them.  It’s not very likely that they, or their children or grandchildren, will be forced to take an unlicensed, unproven bioterrorism vaccine.  It’s unlikely they’ve ever understood that both the anthrax vaccine and the smallpox vaccine cause more harm than good.  It’s unlikely they’ll ever have to face such choices. 

But you have a choice, at least for now:  don’t take these bioterrorism vaccines; and, in general, don’t take new, experimental drugs put out by the pharmaceutical industry.  They’ll have been “fast-tracked” by the FDA, and rely on animal data without adequate human testing.  And the protection for the pharmaceutical companies means they can take short-cuts in their own manufacturing and testing, because they’ll never be held accountable.  Got a Vioxx-induced heart attack death?  Forget it.  Your tough luck.

In a broad bill that authorized drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, provided for hurrican victims, and cut spending, among many other things, Senators Frist and Hastert put language back in the bill - after colleagues had signed off on conference reports, with assurances that the language would NOT be included - that provides vaccine manufacturers with sweepling liability protections. 

"One of the last items added to the military spending bill was a provision sought by Mr. Frist that would shield drug makers from lawsuits related to vaccines that protect against biological agents or viruses like the one that causes the avian flu. The language would allow lawsuits against vaccine makers only if they engaged in "willful misconduct." The government would pay medical expenses and benefits to those injured or killed by vaccines.
